What should a professional invoice include?
At minimum: your business name and contact details, the client’s bill-to information, a unique invoice number, invoice date, payment due date or Net terms, itemized line items (description, quantity, unit price), subtotal, tax, any discount, and the total due. Clear payment instructions (bank transfer, card link, or check) reduce chase emails.
How should I number invoices and set payment terms?
Use a sequential scheme such as INV-2026-001 so you never reuse a number. Common terms are Net 15 or Net 30 (due that many days after the invoice date). Put the due date on the PDF and match it in your contract or Shopify order notes. If clients pay late often, pair this generator with the Invoice Late Fee calculator.
How are tax and discounts calculated here?
Line items form a subtotal (quantity × unit price). A discount amount is subtracted (capped at the subtotal), then tax is applied to the remaining taxable amount using your tax rate percentage. The total is taxable amount + tax. Adjust the rate for your nexus or local rules; this tool does not file sales tax returns.
Is my invoice draft uploaded to a server?
No. Form data auto-saves to your browser’s local storage for convenience, and PDF generation with jsPDF + autoTable runs entirely on your device. Clearing site data or using the reset control removes the local draft. Nothing is sent to our servers.
Can freelancers and Shopify sellers use the same template?
