How does target file size (KB) compression work?
In target mode the tool binary-searches JPEG/WebP quality until the encoded blob fits under your max KB. If the image is still too large at the lowest quality, it scales dimensions down in steps and retries. PNG originals switch to WebP for target mode because lossless PNG rarely hits aggressive KB caps.
When should I use quality mode vs target KB mode?
Quality mode is best when you want predictable sharpness (for example 80–90% for Shopify product image file size). Target KB mode is best when a marketplace, theme, or email template enforces a hard size limit—set 100–300 KB and let the binary search find the highest quality that fits.
Is this a Shopify image compressor or an image resizer?

Original keeps the source family when possible (JPEG stays JPEG, WebP stays WebP; PNG stays PNG in quality mode). Force JPEG for maximum compatibility or WebP for smaller files with modern browsers. For PDFs of documents, use Compress PDF instead.
