Frequently Asked Questions
When should I use WebP vs PNG vs JPEG?
JPEG is ideal for photos when you need broad compatibility and smaller files. PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency for UI, logos, and screenshots. WebP usually beats both on size for modern browsers and still supports transparency—great for web publishing and Core Web Vitals when your stack can serve it.
Does converting to JPEG remove transparency?
Yes. JPEG has no alpha channel. This converter fills transparent areas with white before encoding so results don’t turn black. Keep PNG or WebP if you need a transparent background.
Can I convert AVIF or GIF files?
If your browser can decode the file, you can drop it here and re-encode to PNG, JPEG, or WebP. Animated GIFs become a single still frame (the first frame the browser paints). Encoding to AVIF is not offered because browser Canvas support for AVIF encoding is still inconsistent.
Will conversion change my image dimensions?
No. Pixels are preserved 1:1—only the container format and (for JPEG/WebP) quality setting change. Use the Image Cropper or Universal Image Resizer if you also need to change framing or size.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Decoding and Canvas toBlob encoding run entirely on your device. Individual downloads and ZIP packs are generated locally with JSZip—nothing is transmitted.

Image Format Converter: PNG, JPEG, and WebP in Your Browser
The right image format cuts weight without killing clarity. Shipping PNG photos bloats pages; forcing JPEG on UI art softens edges; skipping WebP leaves performance on the table for modern browsers.
This free Image Format Converter runs 100% client-side. Drop one or many PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF, or GIF files, pick PNG / JPEG / WebP, tune quality for lossy formats, convert with Canvas, compare before/after sizes, then download one file or a ZIP of the whole batch.
Pair it with the Image Cropper for framing, the Universal Image Resizer for marketplace presets, the Universal Image Compressor for KB targets, Image to PDF for document packs, and the GIF Resizer when you need motion.
